How does Bars Leaks work?
When Bars Leaks is added to the cooling system, Bars Leaks sealer dissolves under heat and circulates into millions of tiny particles to form a permanent internal and external seal in engine blocks and heads, radiator and heater cores, head gaskets, hose connections and core plugs. Wherever the coolant circulates in a cooling system, these particles travel to protect the engine from coolant loss.
On external leaks the small particles first adhere to the outside areas of seepage and leaks and then steadily build toward the centre of the opening. As the particles come into contact with the outside air, they expand approximately 15% to form a smooth, walled compression seal that continues to contract and expand consistent with the variety of metallic expansion rates found in today’s modern cooling systems.
On internal leaks. In the areas adjacent to the combustion chamber the sealant particles actually burn to form an impervious head seal.
Porosity leaks will increase when antifreeze or coolant is added to the cooling system. Bars Leaks plugs up this porosity leakage in an engine block.
Oil to water leaks which occasionally contaminate and break down both coolant and lubricant occur in the lower crank case. Bars Leaks regularly seals this most difficult leak. Cooling system rust and corrosion may produce “hot spot” engine damage, often resulting in major engine repair and occasionally complete engine replacement. Bars Leaks inhibits rust and corrosion with a special cleaning and buffing agent that continually scrubs away corrosion while repeatedly lifting and re-depositing thin emulsions of protective water soluble oil throughout the entire cooling system.
Lubrication of the water pump seal and elimination of water pump noise is readily controlled through regular preventative maintenance application of Bars Leaks.
How long will Bars Leaks application last?
At motorway speeds, the hot coolant is continuously pumped through the system at high speeds. The entire contents of Bars Leaks continually circulates in the coolant and gradually the particles are worn away and should be replaced every six to twelve months.
As regular preventive maintenance against leaks, Bars Leaks should never be confused with ordinary stop leak products often tried as a quick repair under emergency conditions.
